Aloha FashionStylistas! I decided to write about stepping out of my comfort zone and here’s why: As a personal stylist I meet people with different needs, some need inspiration and new outfits, others want to just go shopping, sometimes they are lost and not sure what they want, and sometimes they are ready to try something new, revamp their wardrobe, taking it to the next level. When I receive a request to revamp someone’s wardrobe or update their style, I have to push my client’s out of their comfort zone and often I get a client pushing back and saying, no I don’t think so and the funny thing is they’re the ones that requested a makeover, right? This response comes from a place of the unknown, a little insecurity, fear, not knowing how people will react and so much more, but THE UNKNOWN is good my friends.
I am very feminine when it comes to my style, even when I was a little girl. I didn’t want tennis shoes, I wanted cute boots, mary janes, anything but running shoes and to this day I am still the same way. I desperately need a pair of new running shoes, but every time I go to a store to buy them I end up walking out with heels, platforms, wedges, sandals anything but the running shoes, except this one day when I walked into a Marshalls and spotted these babies. In this picture you see my gold oxfords and this is me out of my comfort zone. I receive so many compliments on these shoes more than any other piece I own. Isn’t it fabulous? See going out of the comfort zone is a very good thing! The same happens with my clients, I guide them to wear something that they would never wear and then they receive a compliment or two and it’s bam! Confidence arises and they are ready to try new and exciting looks.
I have worn these shoes mostly with pants and jeans, but again wanting to try the unknown I decided to try something different and I loved it! This dress cries out, “I am woman, hear me roar”. It gives me a waist, more hips and a delicate decolletage. I bought it ages ago at the Anthropologie store on Market St. in San Francisco. Reminded me of Pearl Harbor the movie. Don’t you just love the print?
Wore it with these round sunnies and vintage clutch my mother gave me a couple of years ago. I hope this helps you to shop and try something a little out of your comfort zone.
