Corporate people of the world it is time to step up your style game

Corporate People of the World …it is time to step up your style game, look powerful, sophisticated, modern and get that promotion or job!

I know the title to this post might seem a little crazy, and you might think to yourself, I have a job or maybe you feel that style or fashion really isn’t a priority your life and that your integrity, ethics, skills and work will speak for you, but here is a little something that is interesting.

FACT: Statistics show that when meeting new people, the impact is 7% from what they actually say, 38% the quality of our voice, grammar and overall confidence in what we say and 55% the way we dress, act and walk through the door. Confidence will improve their perception of your overall performance. (via

San Francisco Fashion Blogger – FashionStylista

These are my top fifteen pieces YOU shouldn’t be living without, if you might be committing fashion suicide.

Now I want to give you this list, because it’s a great start to creating a wardrobe.  I could easily give you a list of 100 pieces that I think you should own, but I wanted to keep it simple and affordable.  If you love this, find this helpful, please share leave your comments and questions below!

  1. Black flats
I love heels, but even I can get a little tired and if I decided to eat mexican or chinese food the night before trust me I will be wearing a pair of black flats.  I get so swollen everytime!
  2. Black pumps
No. 2 is just as important as no. 1 –  Anyone who knows me, knows I love heels, I am an advocate of heels, I think every woman should at least own one pair, even if they’re kitten heels.  Personally they make me feel powerful, sexy and tall which I love because I am 5’2 and I need to feel tall! lol.
  3. Nude pumps
Let’s say you’re wearing a monochromatic outfit, it’s all red, all black a nude pump would look fabulous.  Have you ever bought a dress/piece and you have no freaking idea what color shoe you should wear, because not even black will go with it?  This is when you need a nude pump.
  4. LBD
This piece is on every stylists list and it’s definitely on mine – a great little black dress can serve as a dress for a date, event, funeral, dinner.
  5. Jean jacket
Not only is my jean jacket the piece I run to when I’m in a hurry and trying to get out the door, but if I want to give my outfit a casual spin this is my #1 choice.
  6. Gold hoops earrings
I have a pair at home, one in my car or in my purse.  If for some reason I didn’t put a watch on, necklace or earrings I know I have a pair of hoops in my bag or car.  A pair of hoops will look good any day with any outfit, even if their silver.
  7. White T-shirt (v-neck is my favorite)
Oh how I played this piece out this year.  I probably bought 5 or  6 v-neck t-shirts.  I wore them with everything, sweats, jeans, shorts, leggings, jeggings, jean skirt and it can go on and on.  Love me a white t-shirt.
  8. Classic Tote
If you work, if you have kids, if you are like me and have to carry your whole world in your purse, you need a tote.  I suggest a classic tote, this is a piece I would invest in most def.
  9. Fabulous pair of jeans
Another piece I would invest in is a some good jeans, unless you find them for less than $20 and they make your a$$ look fabulous go ahead and get’m girl, but if you can’t find them for that fabulous price and you need to pull out $100 do it!  Who doesn’t wear jeans these days? You need a pair jeans that look great on you and make you feel great when you’re sitting, walking, whatever you’re doing 😉
  10. Statement necklace
I love jewelry, you can see that in my pics and videos.  I believe that a great statement necklace is not just a conversation starter, but can bring an outfit together and even take it to another level.
    Tulle & Pearls
  11. Clutch
Why would’t you own one? Do you go out on dates, dinners, parties? You need a clutch, please do not bring your huge tote.
  12. Riding boot
When it’s winter or fall – this piece will make your outfit look chic and sophisticated.  Put them on with a dress and tights or wear them with some skinny jeans.
  13. Fitted blazer
This is one of my favorite pieces, I use a fitted blazer for church, when I meet with a new client, if I go out on a date with my hubby and I wear jeans, with a t-shirt, I throw on that blazer and a heeled sandal and voila!
  14. Chambray shirt
This serves the same purpose that a jean jacket does, except it’s really comfy – like really comfy.  Get one!
  15. Black heeled sandal
Those nights or days, when you want to feel sexy and show off that pedicure you just got, wear them.  If you do not own a pair go buy them!

Well their they are my top fifteen pieces – I hope this has been helpful, it is a great way to start a fabulous wardrobe.

Dresslink Wish List!

As I have mentioned before in my episodes or posts, I am always on a tight budget and always love a great deal.  So, let me share this fabulous story with you, this week I was going  through Facebook and you know how the internet is like big brother?  Well, they love to place all kinds of ads in front of my face, they’re usually make-up, styling, fashion, stores, dolce, etc.  I saw one add that captured my attention and I have seen it before, but thought it was fake and too good to be true.  Ready?

It was Dresslink!  They have adorable accessories, clothes that are fun, some sophisticated and it’s ridiculously affordable.  I created a WISH LIST and have ordered a few pieces and cannot wait to receive them and post the pics, but I have to tell you that the one thing to take a look at is the shipping, it can get pricey, but at the end it’s still an amazing deal.  DHL and FedEx are the safest way to go.

Here are a couple of items I’m waiting for: Screen Shot 2015-08-16 at 9.53.56 PM

I ordered this coco sweater in white.  Click on the picture to view:  Sweater Link

I ordered this wallet in blue.  I loved it when I saw it, because I always carry around so many cards, library cards, medical cards, car insurance, etc.  I thought it would be perfect.  Click on the picture to view.  Wallet Link

This jumpsuit looks so comfy!  I had a bit of an obsession with gray this summer, if you haven’t noticed, I bought gray t’s, gray dress, gray and jean jacket…gray was my go to color for everything, so I thought I def need to switch it up and decided on the black…the reviews are awesome I can’t wait to receive it.  Black Jumper Link

This website is kind of like a Forever 21 just way cheaper, I’ve done my research looked at the reviews, watched the YouTube videos and it looks good – all the clothing items I ordered were XL according to the reviews everyone says order a size bigger even with shoes, the sizes are not the same as in the US.  For example I’m a size 10 here so I ordered 12-14.

I can’t wait!  Link:  DRESSLINK

Pink is the new red…

according to Lucky Magazine and their contributor page, so I have submitted my fabulous hot pink dress and it really is perfect timing, because I just took these pics a couple of weeks ago for my blog.   Pink is the new red.

Check out this painting behind me with all the crazy red in it, my husbands art.

pink is the new red

So looking at my blog and my pictures I’m sure you can see that I am not one to avoid color – in fact I love color.  It brings life to my face and I guess it can make me feel a bit cheery sometimes.   I was looking for a tight fitting dress this summer something a bit sexy that would hug my curves, now this is a little bit out of my norm, because if you look at my pics I don’t really dress this way, it’s usually jeans, pants a top, but not anything so form fitting.  What I wanted to do was challenge myself to wear it and own it and what I mean by owning is own the dress not let the dress own me and by that I mean, let my insecurities show while wearing the dress and I did just that.

How did I do it?  Well, the truth is it’s all in your mind.  I told myself to just freaking do it, be natural about it and smile and that was it.  I promise no photoshop is involved.  I am a firm believer that what you believe is sent out to the universe and returns to you.  Like being nice and kind, someone will be nice and kind to you, because it’s all over you, it’s who you are, because you have decided in your mind to be nice and kind.  Same is for loving your body even those insecurities.  Anyway, I guess I just had to talk about the insecurities of a woman, because that was the big thing when I decided to buy and take pictures in this dress, but I am wearing some serious Spanx that’s for sure.

Now, for those of you who have never worn Spanx let me tell you, it’s not that great or comfortable and it does not make you look 5 lbs. thinner either, all it does is hide the rolls, or makes your belly fat flat.  In this picture I am wearing the shorts, here is a direct link:  Higher Power Short

Love these little shorts, they go up to my bra and cover my back fat making it all look smooth and they also have a hole in the crotch part to go pee, maybe to much information, but just thought I would let you know.   I can’t wait to wear this outfit again, it was so much fun.  Below are some links on where you can find these items or similar items.

Dressing A Pair Shape Body

Lord it’s been hard to get on here lately and I’m not sure if it’s because my girls are on summer break or I have to continually clean and cook and do the admin work and so on, but I’m so happy I finally have a few minutes to myself at 1:45 a.m. to get this post done.

I work with all different types of women when it comes to styling ages any where from 20 to 60.  Some of these women are executives, lawyers, business owners and some students.   One thing I know is that we all have insecurities and it’s something I’m made aware of in the consultations.  Some of these insecurities are ridiculous, arms, butt, calfs, etc.  But I get it, when I say I hate something about myself my husband says I’m crazy and I tell him I don’t believe him, because he’s my husband, but there is a solution to the insecurities that hold our style goals back and I’m here to help.

A while ago I was talking to a friend and she said I don’t know how to dress for my body shape.  She mentioned she hated dresses and skirts.  All she wore was pants and dark pants, stretchy workout pants.  She didn’t like her thighs – her bottom half and I totally get it.  Do you remember a few years ago when low rise was so popular?  What the he**~!  I have no j-lo booty, but I couldn’t wear those, my crack would show every time I sat down.  I was so happy when high waisted jeans came in, they tuck everything in my butt and gut.  So I decided to make it into an episode for FashionStylista TV it includes tips and suggestions on how to dress for the Pear Shape.

  • Dress your bottom half in darker colors, like black, brown, plumb, forrest green, navy blue, dark blue jeans.
  • If you decide to wear print on your bottom half, make sure the print is small and not huge, it will only make you look bigger.
  • Create a balance between your hips and shoulders by wearing open neck shirts like a boat neck or v-neck
  • Bring the attention up and not to your beautiful hips by wearing a statement piece like a necklace or earrings.
  • Shoulder pads help!  Structured blazers are your friends.
  • Try and wear heels they lengthen your body and reduce the difference between your shoulders and hips.

Overall love your body no matter what shape, it’s easier to say than actually do, but let’s try together.

Personal Stylist On A Budget

I know it may seem as if I have a huge closet and a huge wallet, but I actually don’t.  I work as part-time personal stylist and blogger, I own a photography and cinematography business with my hubby and of course I’m a full-time mommy .  I am very much on a budget all the time, I think once, I didn’t shop for six months or more!  Well, the reason why I bring all this up is because this fabulous dress you see on these pics I found at Marshalls for less than $20 – now I don’t always find great pieces and good quality, but when I do and it’s at a price you can’t beat – trust me I’m buying.  You know what I’m saying?

Claire Vivre

You know how fringe is so in right now?   I’ve been eyeing these fringe sandals for a while, but they were Stuart Weitzman and Steve Madden, but they were over $100.00 and then I found Lola Shoetique and found the exact same shoes for a fraction of the price and usually when you find something like this you think, I bet they’re so uncomfortable right? Well, I decided to give it change and when they arrived they actually fit!  Secret between you and I…MY FEET ARE SO WIDE! I can’t stand it, it’s really rare when I can find a pair of designer shoes that actually fit.  They fit and are so comfortable and affordable.  They didn’t only fit my feet, but my budget.  Lola Shoetique there’s the link.  Below are similar items to the items you see me wearing, check them out and give it a try.

Lola Shoetique

I love to be wise when I shop, I have rules that help me buy what will get me the most for my money.  I’ll share a few with you, hopefully it will help you save $$$.

  1. Buy in outlets, Banana Republic, Gap, Ann Taylor, etc.
  2. Estate sales and thrift shops are a must on my list for shopping on a budget.
  3. I shop at Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack like its no body’s business, if you don’t have to buy at full price, why would you?
  4. I buy tons of costume jewelry, accessories, scarfs, hats, bags, shoes and turbans.  A huge tip I give all my clients when meeting with them and teaching them about shopping is accessories and jewelry can make or break your outfit and it can also change the look.
  5. I also buy more tops, jackets, blouses than I do pants/bottoms.  When you meet someone or see someone do you look at their pants or their skirt? I don’t.  My eyes are on the top half of their body, every outfit is like a new outfit when you change the top and accessories, trust me.

Looking stylish and up to date does not have to empty out your wallet, it just takes a bit of work, creativity and enough desire to go out and get it done or hire a stylist.  Look good ladies!  From your Personal Stylist On A Budget.

Do you have tips on shopping on a budget or did you enjoy this post, please leave your comments and questions below :)

Wanna know how to wear gaucho pants? want to know how to wear gaucho pants. I have three fabulous tips that every woman should follow and here they are…

1.   Try booties, ankle-strap sandals, or peep-toe starter mules with three-inch heels.  (Remember my post about midi-skirts? Same rules here)

2.  Show off your waist.  Fitted top is best!

3.  Wear with confidence! Own it baby.

I recently stumbled upon a website called TOBI  and bought these gaucho pants, I ordered a pair and the sweet thing about it is…when you sign up you receive 50% !!!!

I like to be comfortable, it’s not just about style when it comes to getting dressed and I have to say these are so freakin comfortable – I can’t even stand it. If I had my way I would probably wear them with a sweater and eat popcorn on the couch, but we both know I can’t do that, but I have worn them more than five times in a month! They’ve kind of become like my go to pants when I’m on the run or gotta leave quickly to pick up the girls and don’t want to leave in my p.j.’s.  I also wear them with flat sandals and they still look as fabulous as they do with pumps.

Red Lips Red Shoes

I own many many shoes, all different types and colors, but I did not own any red shoes, and I have been dying to buy a pair, but never really found a pair that I loved.  When it comes to shopping I have to love it, have to have it, or it’s not going in my closet.  Originally, I was looking for red heels with fringe, but I ran into these gorgeous ladies and now they are mine.  I ordered them from Lola Shoetique – they are called Cecille and can be found here:

Red Heels

I’m not much of an online shopper, one because I want whatever I purchased in my hand immediately and two because I hate having to return things, if they don’t work out and I wasn’t sure if this would work, because I have wide feet.  I once bought a couple of shoes from ShoeDazzle online and none of them worked out because of how wide my feet are, but when these came in and I tried them on they were perfect.  I used them for about 4-5 hours on Sunday and I have no complaints whatsoever.

A pop of color in your wardrobe is a fun and modern way to show some personality if that is who you are.  I am absolutely out there at least with my clothes and accessories, so adding color to my wardrobe is no biggy.

If you like dark colors and mostly own black, this is a perfect way to revamp your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Add color by buying shoes, a bag, necklace and even a red lipstick.  These small and inexpensive purchases can make a a huge difference.  Red Lips Red Shoes.Red Heels - Red Lips - Red Shoes

Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone

Aloha FashionStylistas!  I decided to write about stepping out of my comfort zone and here’s why:  As a personal stylist I meet people with different needs, some need inspiration and new outfits, others want to just go shopping, sometimes they are lost and not sure what they want, and sometimes they are ready to try something new, revamp their wardrobe, taking it to the next level.  When I receive a request to revamp someone’s wardrobe or update their style, I have to push my client’s out of their comfort zone and often I get a client pushing back and saying, no I don’t think so and the funny thing is they’re the ones that requested a makeover, right?  This response comes from a place of the unknown, a little insecurity, fear, not knowing how people will react and so much more, but THE UNKNOWN is good my friends.

I am very feminine when it comes to my style, even when I was a little girl.  I didn’t want tennis shoes, I wanted cute boots, mary janes, anything but running shoes and to this day I am still the same way.  I desperately need a pair of new running shoes, but every time I go to a store to buy them I end up walking out with heels, platforms, wedges, sandals anything but the running shoes, except this one day when I walked into a Marshalls and spotted these babies.  In this picture you see my gold oxfords and this is me out of my comfort zone.  I receive so many compliments on these shoes more than any other piece I own.  Isn’t it fabulous? See going out of the comfort zone is a very good thing!   The same happens with my clients, I guide them to wear something that they would never wear and then they receive a compliment or two and it’s bam! Confidence arises and they are ready to try new and exciting looks.

Gold Oxford Woman Shoes

I have worn these shoes mostly with pants and jeans, but again wanting to try the unknown I decided to try something different and I loved it!  This dress cries out, “I am woman, hear me roar”.  It gives me a waist, more hips and a delicate decolletage. I bought it ages ago at the Anthropologie store on Market St. in San Francisco. Reminded me of Pearl Harbor the movie.  Don’t you just love the print?

Wore it with these round sunnies and vintage clutch my mother gave me a couple of years ago.  I hope this helps you to shop and try something a little out of your comfort zone.

Red is the Color!

I absolutely love the color red, it’s not only bright, but it’s so sexy.  Isn’t it? I think it might be my second favorite color next to black.

So, let me tell you the little story about this outfit you see here.  A couple of weeks ago I was scrolling through Instagram as I usually do around 2 or 3 a.m. when my brain won’t shut off and I saw this picture of another fashionista wearing this skirt and she looked amazing, gorgeous.  I fell in love with the skirt and found out where she bought it and had to order it, luckily I found it in my size and it was on sale, which even made the buy sweeter.

A red maxi skirt is a great piece for a summer wardrobe.  Below is a great way to give you an idea on how you can wear this red maxi skirt.  I wore it with a black cropped top and black heels for an additional pop of color I added these white earrings I found a few months ago at H&M at Stoneridge Mall.  Red skirt means red lipstick, at least in my book it does.  I used my trusty Ruby Woo lipstick from MAC Cosmetics, one of the reasons why I love this lipstick is because it’s matte, there is no shine to it and it lasts a couple of hours too, but a big tip for this lipstick make sure your lips are moisturized and no cracks.  I can’t wait to wear this skirt again, I have so many ideas!

This was the perfect outfit to celebrate my 35th birthday.  To shop the look scroll below for links to the skirt, lipstick, watch and similar products I wore on this post.

Red maxi skirt with a black cropped top, I wasn’t able to find the link to the black top I’m wearing here, but I found something similar below, shop this look!

Tulle & Pearls

Sunday I decided to put on my tulle skirt, I’ve worn it very casual as you can see here, but I wanted to glam it up a bit, so I decided to wear it with a classic black sweater and for instant glam, heels, a chunky pearl necklace for my statement piece and of course my Chanel sunglasses.
